There are many different skills that a marketer needs to be successful, especially if they’re marketing a small business and don’t have the support of a team and expensive ad and marketing agencies.
But there is one skill that I believe is more important than all of the others, because it’s the one that drives the success of all of the others.
What is it? It’s the skill of being able to put yourself in the shoes of your potential customer.
To understand what they’re
1. Thinking
2. Experiencing, and
3. Feeling
Until you can do that, you’ll always be crippled in everything you do in marketing.
But once you have mastered this skill, everything you do will be a much stronger fit with your audience: the products you create, the way you talk about them, the way you serve them, and how you make key decisions – every one of those factors is tempered by what you believe your potential customer is thinking, experiencing and feeling.
Watch this video which talks more about this, and how you can better hone this essential skill.
Then let me know what you’re thinking in the comments!
Empathy.
Totally agree. I think we’re saying the same things, you’re just more efficient! 🙂

Ooh, very excited for you!
Don Crowther I’ll keep you posted… Jeff pulling off a launch in one week inspired me to get BACK INTO ACTION. Took the leap on Tuesday, and decided to go all in.
You have taught me SO MUCH the last couple of years. <3 My students get to enjoy the fruits of the seeds you sow...
Yes! “What is my audience thinking, experiencing and feeling…” <3 Thank you, Don Crowther!
Yep, those three things – a magical triad.
Ahhh… So true.
Perseverance 😀
